The Sweet Smell of Waste
For immediate release - New Technology
Austin, TX - August 14, 2000
Meltec Inc. is pleased to announce the introduction of its new animal waste treatment system. The products developed at Micro-Bac International Inc.® of Round Rock, Texas, are proprietary blends of biochemicals and waste degraders.
Over the years the odors and waste problems that have been associated with dairy farms have become a heated topic in most farming communities. There have also been runoff problems and other environmental concerns associated with such a massive concentration of animal waste. "Using its proprietary technology, Micro-Bac has been able to eliminate the odors associated with standing waste lagoons and turn those 'dead ponds' into renewed healthy ecosystems again," said Todd Kenney, Micro-Bac's Technical Specialist. Traditional methods have generally relied upon storing animal waste in large pits or lagoons until they can be re-applied to the land or hauled off to other sites. Odors then arise because all this waste is left in an ineffective or stagnant system resulting in both air and land pollution.
In tests conducted throughout the U.S., Micro-Bac has had huge successes eliminating odors and other problems with manure pits by adding specialized formulations selected for their ability to rapidly and completely degrade waste without generating ammonia or hydrogen sulfide. Tests also showed a benefit to the overall health of the animals with indoor applications resulting in decreased infant mortality, and increased overall weight gain.
The products are available in both a liquid (Guard-Bac) and dry (Mega-Bac X®) formulation and are shipped in 5 gallon containers. When used in combination with Meltec's automatic metering system, the products make up a systematic approach to the growing problems of dairy animal waste.
